From 2010 trough 2012 Vinger.nl and artist label Fffuck staged FATFORM. An artist-run initiative and flexible platform where (Art) objects, performances, cultures, genres, feelings and opinions could circulate in all their radicality. Due to experimental and international cross programming all possible forms of expression come together in a parking garage in De Bijlmermeer (Amsterdam South East). With this clash of worlds we wanted to encourage makers and audiences from very diverse fields and backgrounds to meet and exchange.

PRESENT FOREVER, 55 CONTEMPORARY DUTCH ARTISTS

For its third and last season we invited Ad de Jong and Manuel Klappe to make an exhibition together with Daniela Bershan, co-director of FATFORM. We wanted to go out with a bang and were really ambitious about this show. In collaboration with 55 contemporary Dutch artists, exhibition designer Bas Oudt and a production crew of over 50 peeps we turned 4000 square meters into PRESENT FOREVER. An exhibition in which 55 artists showed their latest work on multiple, spiralling floors and together created a unique visual experience. Aware that the future does not present itself, but should be made, the artists gave their own vision on their personal future and determined their position on things to come.

PRESENT FOREVER, 55 Contemporary Dutch Artists was on view daily from July 28th until September 30th 2012 in garage Klieverink, Kraaiennest, Amsterdam. We welcomed over 6.000 visitors coming from near by and far away to experience this extraordinary show.

FATFORM style clashing worlds, disciplines and cultures we opened this show with a fest of art, music, food and drinks. While people could wander around the garage with 82 artworks on display, the roof top was stage to bands, MC’s, DJ’s and dancers.  Performances by Jay Colin, Bat Country,  MD Dance  and many many more made artists, workers and guests groove into the summer night.

And PRESENT FOREVER had some more extras on offer. We transformed the central storage spaces into a coffee corner and bookshop, offering refreshments for body and mind. We also organised many smaller events during the run of this show, like artists talks, dance performances, clip shoots and tours for academy students from Amsterdam and children of local primary schools. All in all it made PRESENT FOREVER destination for high brow art lovers as well as a hang out for local youngsters and aspiring artists.

DESIGN

We invited graphic designer Roosje Klap to create a visual identity for Present Forever and her design worked really well. We love the black & white Banco font, you might know it from the famous Trasher Magazine logo. We produced banners, posters, flyers, invitations, T’s, tickets and last but not least a catalogue. We distributed DIY style on and offline, attracting many happy visitors and lots of great show reviews!

DOCUMENTATION

This extraordinary and temporary effort was carefully documented in the PRESENT FOREVER catalogue. The photography by Herve Hubert, the visual identity by Roosje Klap and steady desktop production labour of Jeff Croese together with Bas Oudt resulted in a worthy publication that’s now one of the few tangible remains of this enterprise.

To document as well as to promote the show, we also directed, shot and cut a long playlist of video’s, sharing the making of and final results.

MEDIA

When it’s hardly an effort to get the journalists out, you know you’ve got something special going on. We can try and describe that ‘something special’ our selves, but let’s just share the many reviews with you here, written by serious art critics, curious journalists and fun loving bloggers.DOCUMENTATION
