Puwema Peti (Sranang Tongo for 'source of poetry' is a 64-page anthology made for the 150 years commemoration of the abolishment of Dutch slavery. After three centuries of slavery, the 1st of July 1863 marked an important change in the course of history for the people in former Dutch colonies Surinam and the Antilles. Don't forget they made those people work for ten more years, until 1873, before they were really free. The aftermath of this common past remains present today, and is expressed by seventeen writers, poets and artists in this book. Puwema Peti was initiated and published by the OBA, the public library of Amsterdam
